Deputy Regional Minister Lara Martínez participated yesterday in the round table on Marketing and communication of environmental sustainability at the III Turespaña Convention.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism, Lara Martínez, yesterday presented the Asturian model of sustainable tourism to more than 500 professionals and destination managers attending the 3rd Turespaña Convention, which began yesterday in San Sebastián.
Martínez took part in the round table Marketing and communication of environmental sustainability, where the Principality shared the stage with Paradores, the Generalitat de Catalunya and Benidorm Town Council. During the debate, sustainable strategies were analysed and regenerative tourism was discussed, a term which, according to the Deputy Minister, is not appropriate in Asturias. "Our community, which is very multifaceted, has had a clear model since the 1980s. A model with a strong emphasis on rural tourism, which has made it possible to preserve areas from an economic but, above all, social and cultural point of view. These are generative rather than regenerative policies", she said.
The Deputy Minister also outlined the main pillars of the Asturias Tourism Strategy 2020-2030, which focuses on sustainability, authenticity, regional identity and the quality of resources and services. "The slogan Natural Paradise, by which everyone knows us in Spain, is eloquent enough about the orientation that, since its birth, Asturias has pursued as a destination; a solid tourism brand that for more than three decades has been leading the way for enjoyment and relaxation in a well-preserved environment," he explained.
The III Turespaña Convention, organised by the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism together with the San Sebastian City Council and with the collaboration of the Provincial Council of Gipuzkoa and Basquetour (Basque Tourism Agency) brought together half a thousand tourism managers from the private sector and public administrations.
